Charles Howard Hatfield, Jr.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Charles Howard Hatfield, Jr., 85, of Winnsboro, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the Winnsboro Methodist Church in Winnsboro, LA with Rev. Fran Guy officiating.  Interment will follow in the Old Winnsboro Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Winnsboro, LA.

Charles was born on December 28, 1937, in Shreveport, LA, to the union of the late Charles “Charlie” Howard Hatfield and the late Thelma “Teddy” Carruth Hatfield, and passed away on October 27, 2023, in Winnsboro, LA.  He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Elizabeth Richardson Hatfield, on November 5, 2020.

After graduating from Winnsboro High School, he continued his education at the University of New Mexico and Southern Methodist University.  He was awarded his Masters in Finance and Economics.  During his career, he advised and managed several large corporations’ money, stocks, and market investments.  He served as President of the Dallas Economist Club and Dallas Association of Investment Analyst.  Charles was a member of the Methodist Church in Winnsboro, and St. John United Methodist Church of Albuquerque, NM.

Investing money for large corporations can be very stressful, so he enjoyed the outdoors by camping, hiking, and hunting for deer and elk in the mountains of the southwest.  He was gregarious, loved to dance and travel.  Charles remained close to many of his fraternity brothers in college and kept in touch with them over the years.  They loved sharing a great meal, glass of wine, a good cigar, and discussing the world’s problems!  One of his friends called him a true “renaissance” man.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Mary Ann Hatfield of Winnsboro, LA; son, Charles “Charlie” Howard Hatfield, III and wife, Kiersten of Highlands Ranch, CO; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Banes Hatfield of Richardson, TX; brother, Thomas “Tommy” Benjamin Hatfield and wife, Eleanor of Winnsboro, LA; nephews, Thomas Benjamin Hatfield, Jr. of Houston, TX and his son, Thomas; Hunter Brannon Hatfield and wife, Nathalie of New Zealand and their son, Brandon; niece, Courtney Carruth Rutkowski and husband, Ryan of Richardson, TX; step sons, Brian Gunter and son, David of Winnsboro, LA, and Edwin Gunter and wife, Kathy and their children, Jack and Katie of Woodstock, GA.

Pallbearers will be David McLemore, James McLemore, Alex Kaufman, Burt Hammons, Edwin Gunter, Brian Gunter, and David Gunter.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until Service Time on Tuesday, at Winnsboro Methodist Church.
