Lamar was born June 18, 1931, in Ward 9 in West Monroe, LA, and passed from this life on March 7, 2024, in Monroe, LA after a short illness. He graduated from Ouachita High School in 1950 and joined the U.S. Air Force shortly thereafter. He was in the Air Force for four years. Lamar was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. His heart of Christian love and gentle spirit impacted the lives of many people. While we have great sadness due to our human loss, we have peace in our hearts knowing that Lamar is experiencing the promise of heaven and eternal life with Jesus. Josh met him at the gates of heaven and said, “Papaw, what took you so long”?

Lamar was preceded in death by his parents, George Franklin and Lula Wagoner Owens; his siblings, Oswald Owens (Marie Colvin), Benny Owens, Edna Mae McGrew (Clayton), Emma Lou Bush (Wayne), Marjorie Gard (Jim), Willie Lea Lovett; son-in-law Terry Hayden; and beloved grandson, Joshua Lamar Porter.

Lamar is survived by his wife of 72 years and 27 days, Bobbie Sue Collie Owens; his daughters, Dianne Lord (husband Gaylord) and Gwen Hayden; his son, Guy Owens (wife Beth); his grandchildren: Caleb Porter (Joni), Jesse Owens (Tina), Jacob Owens (Nikki) and Wess Magee; his great-grandchildren, Joshua Brayden Owens, Harley Kate Owens, Thomas Wayne Owens, Jackson Hayes Porter, and Owen Lamar Porter; brother-in-law, Bill Lovett. Lamar is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a whole host of friends.
