Charlton Thomas "Tom" Hagan

Charlton Thomas “Tom” Hagan, 55, of Ruston, LA, AKA, “God’s Country”, passed away suddenly while vacationing with his family in Orange Beach, AL. But if anyone asked how, he would have wanted us to say he was taken out by a great white shark.

He left this earth with a full heart after days of doing things he loved with those he loved most. Tom was the Director of Security Management, where he spent the last 3 years working with family who became great friends as well. He loved a project and was a serial Entrepreneur. He was an avid supporter of the LA Tech Bulldogs and University of Arkansas Razorbacks. He often shared fond (PG13) memories of Ruston High, the Key Club, and LA Tech, where he was a spirited member of the TKE fraternity. He had an intense love of finding new music to share, and you should have felt privileged to have learned from such a musical savant. He enjoyed exploring national parks with his family and demanded that they carry on this tradition in his memory. He and his wife Shannon were passionate about animal rescue, from which they founded The Rescue Life. Together, they have had a hand in saving over 3,000 lives. His passion project that he affectionately named, “Axl’s Angels”, was to rescue dogs like his soul dog, Axl, who was deaf. We are on the hunt for AA#8 right now! He was also known for his quirky sense of humor, including watching his favorite shows, The Three Stooges, Seinfeld, and Curb your enthusiasm. He cried every time he watched any of the Rocky movies. He had a detailed bucket list of which he was marking off Rolling Stones Top 500 albums of all time, visiting every US national park, and states he visited with a goal of visiting them all.

He was proceeded in death by his soul dog, Axl Ray; his brother-in-law, Jerick Hutchinson; Uncle, Danny Hughes; grandparents, “Tom” and Louise Hagan, Thelma and Charles Hughes; mother-in-law, Cherry Pittinger; and sister-in-law, Janean Westby-Gibson.

Survivors include his “chosen woman” of 34 years, Shannon Poole Hagan; son, Blake Hagan and wife, Suzanne; daughter, Bailey Hagan and boyfriend, Chris Berg; parents, John and Charlene Hagan; sisters, Amy Lawrence and husband, Brad, Stephanie Hagan Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Brittany Eskridge and husband, Cade; brother-in-law, Shane Poole and wife, Krista; father-in-law, Michael Poole and wife, Teri; his beloved nieces and nephews: Zach and Kristen Lawrence, Hagan and McKenzie Lawrence, John Kade and Sarah Morgan Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence, Emily Philip, Avery, and Arden Hutchinson, Paxton Perret, Tate, Taylor and Peyton Eskridge, and Michael and Catherine Poole. He was lovingly known as “Uncle Grumps” by his great nieces and namesake nephew: Gracie Mae, Charlie Rose, Elizabeth, and “Tommy”.

He cherished his lifelong friends and could easily slip into “remember that time when” conversations that would last for hours!

Services will be 6:00 P.M., Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA, located at 2308 Sterlington Road. Tom has requested that he doesn’t want a stuffy service, so he would like everyone to be comfortable, casual, and to wear something in support of one of the things he loved; Specifically, his Ruston Bearcats, LA Tech Bulldogs, or your favorite rock t-shirt and jeans. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until service time with a toast to follow at one of his favorite spots, Sundown Tavern, located at 111 E. Park Avenue. He will and is deeply, and utterly missed. The hole left in our family is great, but it is steadily being filled by all his friends and family.

Honorary Pall Bearers are Zach, Hagan, John Kade and Trevor Lawrence and Chris Berg.
