Haynes, Jr., 80, of West Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at McClendon Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Stewart and Rev. Kenny Herring officiating. Dallas Ezra Haynes, Jr. was born on January 22, 1946, in Tallulah, LA and entered Heaven on September 20, 2026, in West Monroe, La. Dallas graduated from Kilbourne High School in 1964, then went on to earn his B.S. in Civil Engineering from LA Tech in 1970. Throughout his professional career, Dallas worked for International Paper; Ford, Bacon, and Davis; Don Johnson and Associates; Dallas Haynes and Associates; Walk Haydel and Associates; Jacobs; and RSH Engineering.
Dallas spent his life devoted to the Lord and was a member of McClendon Baptist Church. He was a Bible scholar, and you never saw him without his Bible within close reach. He was often found studying the Word, listening to his gospel music and sharing his testimony of how the Lord had impacted his life. He devoted many years to the Home of Grace Program in Mobile, Alabama and was able to share God’s love with all who came through the program. He had the privilege to serve on a mission trip in El Salvador through a ministry founded in memory of his sister. He was touched by how the children responded to the Gospel with their childlike faith, and this ministry remained one of his favorites to support over the years. He shared his heart through sermons he wrote for his local television program, “Born Dead to Live Again” with Lamb Broadcasting. He also wrote and published two books titled Born Dead to Live Again and The Mentor. In his last years, his favorite pastime was sitting in his rocking chair on the back patio overlooking his back yard or “Ponderosa” as he called it, talking about the Boeuf River with his music playing and Bible open close by. He loved and led his family well for so many years and was always ready to cover us and any need in prayer.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth “Mary” Atwell Haynes and “Bo” Dallas Ezra Haynes, Sr.; brother, Larry Joe Haynes; sister, Cheryl Haynes Johnson; and first wife, Madelyn Newman Haynes.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Iva “Cookie” Haynes; son, Dallas Christopher Haynes (Karen); bonus daughters, Deidre Avant (David) and Daphne Cummins (Damion); grandchildren, Savannah Haynes, Rusti Murphy (Zach), Kayleigh Netherland (Tyler), Kari Beth Saterfiel (Dylan), and Maggie Avant; special “grand”, Dallas Yarbrough; great-grandchildren, Ransom Murphy, Callan Netherland, and Magnolia Belle Saterfiel as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his constant companion, their dog, Precious who he often referred to as “Hooter” or “Comanche”.
Pallbearers will be Rufus Cook, David Avant, Jimmy McWilliams, Rusty Hale, Darrell Howse, and Mel Shackleford.
The Haynes family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to our wonderful team of caregivers, Cassandra, Shemeka, Tonya, Kendra, Christy, Ashlea and Jade. These ladies became family to us and made it possible for “Poppy” to stay in his home with all his familiar comforts during the last several years. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Elara Hospice, and Community Care Clinic for the excellent care given to him during this time. His illness may have taken a lot from him especially in the last few years, but it never took his joyful spirit, his thankful heart, and his faith and love for the Lord, and we are so thankful for this precious blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Harvest Assembly and El Salvador Missions in Oak Grove, La.
