Darrell Witten

Darrell Witten passed away on May 7, 2025, at the age of 85, surrounded by his family. He was born in Gonzales, TX on December 30, 1939, and graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1958. He served in the Army from 1959 to 1961 and was honorably discharged. He married Patsy Hammock in January 1962, and they had two children, Kena in 1964 and Kenny in 1968. They were married for over 60 years before her death in 2023.

Darrell moved his family to Nacogdoches in 1970 where he lived until shortly before his death when he moved to a Veteran's facility in Monroe, LA for hospice care. He worked as a truck driver for most of his career and he and his wife traveled all over the country together. During his younger years he enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. He loved his family, baseball and old western TV shows and movies.

He is survived by his daughter, Kena Totsch of Granbury, TX and her husband Rick; son Kenny Witten of West Monroe, LA and his wife Jessica; and grandchildren Autumn Witten, Vivian Bivens, Shelby Weaver and Riley Kate Weaver.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Witten, his father and mother, Kenneth and Lucille Witten, and sister, Bonnie Vernor.

The family would like to thank Tammy and the staff at Heart to Heart Hospice in Nacogdoches, TX; Kimmie with Allegiance Hospice in Louisiana; and Tiffany and the other staff at Northeast Louisiana Veteran's Home for their excellent care and compassion during the last months and weeks of his life. Special thanks to Neal Rogers and Vivian Bivens whose assistance in caring for Darrell for the last few years allowed him to remain in his home as long as possible, which was his strongest desire.

A celebration of Darrell's life will be held on June 28, 2025. Location and other details will be provided in the future.
