Funeral Services for Mr. Darryl McCarty, 71, of Monroe, LA, will be at 11:00 AM Friday, February 2, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe, with Rev. William Smith and Rev. Johnny Holyfield officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. McCarty was born on October 20, 1952, and passed away on January 28, 2024. He was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church. Mr. McCarty was a 1971 graduate of Ouachita Parish High School, where he led the team as quarterback during his Sophomore and Senior years. Some of his former teammates came to his aide by taking him back and forth from radiation treatment: Mr. McCarty called these teammates his caravan of chariots. Darryl retired from work as a chemical operator in Mobile, AL, before returning home to Monroe, LA in 2016. He enjoyed playing pool, hunting, golfing, and competitive deep-sea fishing. Mr. McCarty also raised and raced homing pigeons for many years prior to returning to Monroe.
He valued family over everything and held his sons close to his heart. Mr. McCarty enjoyed discussing boxing with his sons, often debating who were the greatest fighters of all time. His sons gave him the greatest gift—his four granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by son, Dennis Clay McCarty; parents, Charles and Dorothy Smith McCarty; and brother, Terry Lamar McCarty.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rhoda Pam Tripp McCarty; two sons, Danny Lane McCarty and wife Angela Lynn Bailey McCarty, and Larry Darryl McCarty; four granddaughters, Eliana Repentance McCarty, Evangeline Elise McCarty, Keller Jane McCarty, and Hattie Katherine McCarty; brother, Mickey McCarty and wife Carol Chiniche McCarty; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
Pallbearers will be Mickey Charles McCarty, Addison McCarty, Jacob McCarty, Andy Tripp, Jonathan Tripp, Peter Johnson, and Kyle Weiss.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his 1971 classmates and teammates and John Jason Bradford.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Friday, February 2, 2024, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Oaks, St. Francis Rehab, and his sitter, Yolanda Cole.
