Dave Joseph Luffey, 70, of Monroe, Louisiana passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following a courageous battle with congestive heart disease. Dave graduated from St. Frederick High School. He earned a degree in Business Management from Northeast Louisiana University in 1978.

Born November 17, 1955, in Monroe, Louisiana, Dave was the son of the late John and Rosemary (Ellis) Luffey. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lille Sherman Ellis; his beloved sister, Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Luffey; and nephews, Joe and Roger Luffey. He is survived by his siblings, John Jr. (Debbie), Gary (Jan), Terri (Roy), and Monte (Angele) Luffey.

Dave is survived by his wife of 49 years, Terri Kay Wynn; his children, Kayla Luffey Swinney (Mitch) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and David Luffey (Alicia) of Aledo, Texas. Dave was blessed with five grandsons: John Vincent Luffey, Shawn Nolan Luffey, Patrick Cason Luffey, John Owen “Jack” Delamain and Henry Louis Swinney. His brother-in-law, Greg Wynn and his wife Rose Mary Wynn.

A devout Catholic, Dave had a strong relationship with the Lord as he walked through the hills and valleys of his life. He found comfort waking each morning to read and study his bible. His love of animals lead him to volunteer at animal shelters. When the shelters were short on supplies, Dave would be sure they had them. In his later years, he devoted much of his time with the homeless and those less fortunate. Dave would always say, “ You never know when you just might be looking into the eyes on an angel”, not a homeless person. Dave lead by encouraging them in his belief in second chances knowing all things are possible through our Heavenly Father.

While living in Baton Rouge, Dave enjoyed being a member of The Settlement of Willow Grove Civic Association, where he was always available to help set up for neighborhood socials. He also enjoyed going to lunch each Tuesday with the guys. Dave was the founding member of the SWG Men’s Tuesday Lunch group. Many friendships were made at those lunches. Dave looked forward to his neighbors “stopping by the gate” everyday to visit with him. He always had treats for their pets. Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be his five grandsons, Vincent Luffey, Nolan Luffey, Cason Luffey, Jack Delamain and Henry Swinney. Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Settlement of Willow Grove Men’s Tuesday lunch group.

Funeral services honoring the life of Dave Luffey will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, September 5, 2026, in the chapel of Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum with Deacon Bill Goss officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2:00PM until 2:45PM Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe.

The family would like to thank the staff at Allegiance Home Health Hospice for their compassionate care. His nurse, Lacey Peterson and Anastasia Wilson, HA. We also thank Fr. Joe Martina for his prayers and concern for Dave as well as Dr. Glenn Hummell and his wife Lisa for bringing Dave and his wife communion each Sunday. Their prayers and visits brightened Dave’s day. Dave also acknowledges his caregiver and friend, Todd Johnson, for taking Dave to his doctor’s appointments and assisting Dave in his needs.
