Funeral services for Mr. David Ray Speir, 84, of Swartz, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Swartz First Baptist Church with Rev. Jay George, Rev. James David Miller, and Dr. Alan Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home.

Mr. Speir was born on August 16, 1939. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday December 27, 2023. He was a true Outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Swartz First Baptist Church, where he faithfully served the Lord. Mr. Speir served in many ministries of the church. He served as a deacon, was involved with the preschool and youth department, and served on numerous committees. He loved to cook, but frying venison and fish were his favorites. Mr. Speir was always making Angel Food cakes to share with others.

Mr. Speir was employed at Columbian Carbon Company in Swartz for many years before working at General Motors-Guide Plant in Monroe. While at the Guide Plant, he served as a supervisor of maintenance and labor relations.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Wright Speir; parents, George and Lillie Speir; brother, George Speir, Jr.; and sisters, Frances Cole, Virginia Renwick, Marie Glenn, and Patsy Causey.

Survivors include his daughters, Sandy Miller and husband Alan and Sonya Speir; grandchildren, Katie Dupuy and husband Daniel, Kelsie Scharr and husband Jacob, James David Miller; great granddaughter, Lillie Sue Dupuy; brother, Jerry Speir; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

Pallbearers will be James David Miller, Daniel Dupuy, Jacob Scharr, Jimmy Cloessner, Carl Causey, Ronnie Cole, Doug Brewster, and Kevin Holmes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ken Cole, Eugene Berry, Walter Smith, and John Dowd.

The family would like to give thanks and appreciation to Dr. Richard O’Donovan, Dr. Jed Robinson, and Dr. Ralph Abraham. Also, a special thanks to Gardens of Georgia Tucker, Princeton Place of Ruston, Allegiance Hospice and Mulhearn Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Swartz First Baptist Church.
