David Varino, 68, of Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after courageously defying the odds for 18 years following a heart attack at age 50. His strength, intelligence, and love for his family carried him through those years with grace and faith.
Born and raised in Monroe, Louisiana, David was the beloved son of the late Marion John (M.J.) Varino and Gussie Jacola Varino. He was one of five siblings and is survived by Carmela Varino, Debbie Carso (George), Michael Varino, and Tina Varino.
David made Lafayette his home in the late 1980s, where he built a full and meaningful life centered around family and faith. He was a devoted father to Kathryn, Malinda, John-Michael (Kayla), Joseph (Carrie), and Valerie Varino. He took great pride in his children and found tremendous joy in his grandchildren - Anthony, Andrew, Alexander, Madison, Gabriella, and Amelia - with another on the way.
David shared many years with his former wife, Susan Winters, and together they raised a beautiful family. He also had a soft spot for the family’s dogs, Alfie, KeKe, and Crazy, who never failed to make him smile.
David was a man of quiet strength, sharp wit, and deep compassion. He lived his life guided by faith and love, always ready with a kind word, a thoughtful perspective, or a helping hand. His courage and perseverance were an inspiration to everyone who knew him.
A funeral Mass will be held in his hometown of Monroe, Louisiana, at St. Matthews Catholic Church at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, with interment to follow at St. Matthew Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 P.M. until 1:30 P.M., with a rosary at 1:30 P.M. at the church.
A memorial service will be held in Lafayette, Louisiana at a later date.
David will be dearly missed but forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.
