Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Doris Bryant Fandal, 82, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA, with Rev. Frank Coens officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paschal Catholic Church Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA.
Mrs. Fandal died December 20, 2020, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe after a brief illness.
Doris Bryant Fandal was born April 10, 1938, in Mize, Mississippi, with great joy to her parents, Randall and Dorothy Nichols Bryant. She attended Mize Elementary through the 4th grade, moving to Delhi, LA, in the Spring of 1948, graduating from Delhi High School in 1956. She attended Louisiana Tech University receiving her B. S. degree in Science in December 1960. She was employed by Louisiana Power and Light (now Entergy) as a Home Service Representative until her marriage in 1961 to Carlos Fandal. They moved to Baton Rouge, where she was a graduate assistant at LSU, while her husband received his master’s degree. They moved to Radford, VA, then back to Baton Rouge, and Mobile, AL. With her growing family they moved to Monroe/West Monroe in 1966. She attended NLU, receiving an additional degree in Elementary Education and specialist degree in French. She was a teacher at St. Frederick High School, Ouachita Parish Junior High, and the Little Red School House.
Doris loved to cook, sew, crochet, do crafts, read, and travel with her husband. Family was very important part of her life. She was active in her church, St. Paschal Catholic Church, started the Prayer Blanket ministry. She was a Past President and officer of the NLU women’s club. She was a very active member of the Northeast Louisiana Local Susan B. Komen affiliate serving as Past President and board member.
Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Carlos D. Fandal; her grandson, Bryant Patrick Fandal; and her parents, Randall and Dorothy Bryant.
Survivors: Son, Carlos David Fandal, and his wife, Amy; and their children, Carlos D. Fandal, III, Annelise Fandal, and Austin Oswell; Son, Michel Andre Fandal and his wife, Debi; and their son, Joseph Fandal, and his wife, Megan; their son, Grayson Julius Fandal, and daughter Finley Fandal; Daughter of the late Bryant Patrick Fandal, Skylar Jade Fandal, who has been the sunshine in Doris’s life; Son, Bryant Marc Fandal; Daughter, Julie Danielle Price, and her husband, Joey; and their children, Shelby Caldwell and her husband Devin Caldwell and their children Jacob and Patrick; Molly Boydstun and her husband, Ben, and their son, Valor; Sister-in-law, Julie Canulette; Brothers-in-law, Rodney Fandal and wife, Tammi; and Allen Fandal; Sister-in-law, Denise Hartley and husband, Darryl; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Yves Verrett, Dr. Fred Adams, Pat Regan, Dr. Dale Welch, Jeff Wolf, and Ben Boydstun.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Jim McKeithen and Dr. Bill Kitchens.
Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe.
