Dorothy Mae Wright Brown

Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Mae Wright Brown, 96, of Wisner, will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Wisner First Methodist Church with Rev. Fran Guy and Rev. Jimmy Wilkins officiating. Interment will follow at South Central Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Winnsboro.

Mrs. Brown was born on July 19, 1926 and passed away on June 5, 2023. She was a long time member of Wisner First Methodist Church. Mrs. Brown retired from Franklin State Bank after 35 years, where she served as Assistant Vice-President. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, talking to her cats, and shopping. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, Eldon S. Brown, to visit family, in particular her late sister-in-law, Georgie “Belle” Warner (Robert) in Wyoming and spending many Christmases with her late brother-in-law, Charles “Sheffie” Brown (Vivian) and their family. Her great-niece and great-nephew have very fond memories of opening what seemed like dozens of beautifully wrapped packages that had been lovingly selected at local shops and on her travels. She very much enjoyed shopping and was happy to pick up special gifts for her friends and family. She enjoyed attending Spring Pilgrimage in Natchez where her late sister-in-law, Doris “Doll” Viener hosted family at Rosalie. She was an excellent hostess and enjoyed entertaining, in particular cooking. She would spend hours pouring over her recipe books, marking favorites and finding new things to try. She was an avid horseback rider, an excellent gardener and loved being on “the farm” with her husband. She devoted a lot of time and energy to researching the Brown and DeSha family genealogy and would visit courthouses and cemeteries on her travels to gather information.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Rosa Ferrington Wright, her loving and extremely devoted husband of 65 years, Eldon Spencer Brown Jr., and her nephew, Harry Viener (Jacqueline).

Survivors include her niece, Belinda Brown Hazel (Donald); three great-nieces and two great-nephews. She is also survived by many local close friends.

Pallbearers will be John Armstrong, Donald Hazel, Aubrey Hazel, Mark McCarty, Logan Ferrington, and Bubba Ferguson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy Beach, Steve Jackson, Jeb Guice, Myles Kiper, Keith Carroll, Mickey Carroll, and the Men of Wisner and Gilbert Methodist Churches.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Wisner First Methodist Church.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to caregivers, Wilma Stovall, Carol Austin, Elizabeth Warbington, Sandy Prince, Rebecca Lawson, and Annie Hilliard, and close friends Sue McDonald and Fran Guy for their support over the past several years.
