Dr. Henry Glenn
Jordan
Aug 14, 1944 — May 25, 2026
Henry Glenn Jordan peacefully passed away on May 25, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on August 14, 1944, at Lincoln General Hospital to John Henry and Idell Cummings Jordan, he was the baby of the family. From an early age, he was affectionately known as “Bubba”—an endearing nickname that stayed with him throughout his life among those who knew and loved him best.
Glenn was raised in Jonesboro, Louisiana, and carried a deep pride for his roots, tracing his lineage back to some of the earliest pioneer families of Bienville and Jackson Parishes. It was at Jonesboro High School, prior to his graduation in 1962, that he met his one true love, Martha Evelyn Tatum. The high school sweethearts married in 1965 and spent nearly fifty years together before her passing.
The couple attended Louisiana Tech University, where Glenn earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history as well as his master’s in library sciences. It was during these cherished "Tech Years" that they welcomed their daughter, Sharon, in 1968. It was also at LA Tech, while working as a graduate assistant, that Glenn was given the opportunity to teach a few entry-level history classes—this is when he first discovered his love for public speaking and teaching.
In 1971, Glenn and his family moved to Norman, Oklahoma for him to attend the University of Oklahoma where he received his Ph.D. in History specializing in Native American History. While working on his dissertation he served as the director of the historical society. It was during their time in Oklahoma when Glenn and Martha completed their family in 1978, with the adoption of their son, Troy.
The family eventually decided it was time to return home and moved back to Monroe, Louisiana in 1982. Glenn began working at ULM where he worked as the director of special archives as well as an adjunct history professor. He worked for the university for over 25 years before retiring in 2008.
Glenn was an avid volunteer of many civic organizations but was most loyal to the Masonic Lodge, as he was a dedicated member for more than 60 years. He also enjoyed spending his free time outdoors – rather it be hunting, fishing, working in his shop or just enjoying a peaceful afternoon on the porch with a good cup of coffee.
Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Evelyn Tatum Jordan; and parents, John Henry and Idell Cummings Jordan; and sister, Imogene Jordan Poole and husband Don; and sister-in-law, Jill Smith Tatum. Survivors include his two children, Troy Dean Jordan and his wife, Karla, and Sharon Jordan Fuller and her husband, Jimmy; his three grandchildren, Rebekah Jordan Fuller, Chayton Samuel Jordan, and Jakob Brown; a brother-in-law, William E. Tatum and his wife, Anne; a sister-in-law, Sandra Howard and her husband, John; his nieces, Debra Poole Freyer and her husband Alan; Dinah Poole Kirkham and her husband James and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
