Dr. Ralph Gray Asbury, 76, of Monroe, LA passed away on January 5, 2026. Ralph was born in Hamilton, Ohio on March 5, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Wade Asbury and Charlotte Hannah Gray, and his step-mother Majorie Asbury.
He graduated from Iowa State University in 1970 and graduated from the Tulane University School of Medicine in 1974. He completed his fellowship in General Surgery from Oschner Medical Foundation in 1979.
From 1979 to 2003 he served in many critical positions supporting North Louisiana at Glenwood Regional Medical Center. He served with distinction as the Medical Director of Emergency Services, Specialty of Emergency Medicine, and led the hospital as the Chief of Staff from 1988-1989. Following his distinguished career at Glenwood, he continued to serve the community at Cornerstone Wound Care for 10 years.
Ralph was known throughout the community for his ongoing support of many community organizations. He was a founding member of Northminster Church and dedicated countless hours to help with the landscaping and maintenance of the church. He was later a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. In addition to supporting churches in Monroe, he served on the board of the American Red Cross and was a devoted member of the local United Way chapter.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Diana Asbury; his stepchildren, Joshua Culp (wife, Leslie Culp, and children, Jack and Walter Culp) and Natalie Schauf (husband, Bennett Schauf, and children, Harper and Piper Schauf); and his brother, Charles Asbury Jr. (wife, Nancy Asbury), and children Chip Asbury (wife, Karen Asbury, and son, Matthew) and Jacob Asbury (wife, Irene Asbury).
Ralph was a cherished friend to many, including the members and families of The Flaming Asbury’s and his faithful Christian men’s group, The Samson Society.
Ralph had a personality that everyone loved and he treated everyone he met with a level of respect and dignity that is an example for everyone. He lived his life to continuously pursue the activities he loved. As a member of the Flaming Asbury’s, he made magic with his drums at many community events and weddings on their never-ending World Tour. When he wasn’t on the drums, he could be found skiing around Bayou Desiard and taught many young children in the area to water ski. During the winter, he took his skiing skills to the mountains and made many memories with his friends and family. He was also an avid hunter and loved to go on trips with his friends and family to share his love for the outdoors.
Ralph was a blessing to everyone who knew him. He lived a life of compassion, love, and walked with his faith daily.
The visitation will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe followed by the memorial service at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made in his memory to the American Red Cross or Covenant Presbyterian Church.
