Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Brodnax Shirley, 95, 9f Monroe, LA will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, May 30, 2009, in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Larry Stafford officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Shirley was born September 8, 1913, in Boyce, LA and passed away May 27, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. B. Shirley; parents, Jesse and Milline Brodnax; brothers, Johnny, Melvin, W. E. and Leon Brodnax; sisters-in-law, Mozelle and Violet Brodnax.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Lawrence and husband, E. R. Lawrence, Monroe; grandchildren, Michael Lawrence, New York City, NY, Kelly Roark and husband, Phil, Monroe, Brad Lawrence and wife, Amy, Monroe, Tracey Lauve and husband, Robert, Shreveport; great grandchildren, Terrell and Tucker Kincaid, Spencer Roark, Zach, Hagan, John Kade and Trevor Lawrence, John Luke and Lily Lauve; step-great granddaughter, Jordan Roark; sister-in-law, Elaine Brodnax; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She loved to cook for family and friends, sew, garden and take care of "all her babies." She retired from Minden Medical Center and LSU Medical Center, Monroe, as a nurse's assistant. She loved working in the nursery with newborns.
Mrs. Shirley is a member of First United Methodist Church, Monroe.
Pallbearers will be Terrell and Tucker Kincaid, Spencer Roark, Zach, Hagan, John Kade and Trevor Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Lawrence, Brad Lawrence, Phil Roark and Robert Lauve.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Gregory Green, Christy and Diane, Patients Choice Hospice, Hospice Compass and the staff of The Oaks.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Monroe.
