A Celebration of Life for Effie Evelyn McGough, age 95, of Monroe, LA, will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Victory Baptist Church, Finks Hideaway Rd, Monroe under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Rev. Grant Bamburg and Charles Venyon Dupree, Jr will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the service begins at the church.

Effie was born September 11, 1930, in Lake Village, Arkansas and soon after moved to Monroe, Louisiana. She went to be with her Lord and Savior the morning of May 5, 2026. She was a charter and longtime member of Victory Baptist Church, Monroe. She was a Sunday school teacher for years until her health didn’t allow and really took care of her “ladies”. She was the treasurer of the church for many years, and she also took care of the finances of her husband, Jimmy’s, roofing company. She was an avid Bible reader and studier and a strong prayer warrior. She loved being with her family. Through the years, she always had a garden until her health prevented it. She had her largest garden when she lived in West Monroe. Her children referred to it as a Truck Patch – the garden fed four families!

She is preceded in death by her husband, James A (Jimmy) McGough, parents, Bouie and Rose Shaw, brother, Freeman Shaw and sister, Angie Morris. Also, Duke McGough, father in law and Ruby McGough, mother in law and many sister and brother in laws. And special friends Donnie Ray and Violet McEnery.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are three children, Sheila Armstrong (Gary), James (Jim) W McGough (Frances), Kim Dupree (Charles). Grandchildren, Kathy Lewis Johnson (Roy), Mark Armstrong (Jenifer), Lisa Spillers (Chad), Christopher McGough (Claire), Jana Blaylock (Brandon), David Dupree (Andrea) and Amy Friery (Dean).

Great grandchildren Caleb Armstrong (Claire), Colby Armstrong (Christyn), Brandon Lewis, Dylan Lewis, Amilee Spillers, Hicks Spillers, Grey Spillers, Ana Worley (Nate), Mason Blaylock, Cooper Dupree, Rocco Dupree, Elliana Dupree and Micah Friery and a great great granddaughter, L. J. Armstrong. Also brother and sister in laws, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Mark Armstrong, Chris McGough, David Dupree, Colby Armstrong, Brandon Lewis, Dylan Lewis, Hicks Spillers and Grey Spillers. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Victory Baptist Church.

A special thank you to Ouachita Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center staff, nurses and CNAs for their tender loving care.

Her internment will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe.
