A graveside service for Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Ross Herzog, 86, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 2, 2024, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Forest, LA, with Deacon Bill Goss officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe.
Betsy was born to Ben and Lucille Ross December 4, 1937. She was the oldest of five children. She attended Pioneer High School for all 12 grades and graduated in 1956. During her time in school, she received several accolades for writing which included poetry published in the Beta Club, receiving the Sarah Lawrence award, and was editor of the yearbook her senior year.
She married Gerald D. Herzog Sr. August 7,1959 and began her life as wife and Mother. Together, they had ten children.
After her husband’s death, Betsy was an aide at Jesus the Good Shepherd School and went back to school when the children were older, earning her teaching degree. She stayed on the Dean’s List while she did.
Physics was always her passion, and she taught it to elementary children. She taught school at Lida Benton till it closed, Lexington Elementary and the Alternative School. She attended Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church before she became ill. Betsy enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader and camp director while her girls were in high school. She was instrumental in imagining and creating Indian Creek Resident Camp and received recognition for her contributions. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and politics after she retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Dale Herzog Sr.; parents, Benjamin Bryan Ross Sr. and Jessie Lucille McElroy Ross; and granddaughter Jennifer L. Garcia among many other loved family members.
Survivors include her children, Gerald D. Herzog Jr., Cheryl Bell, Peggy Evans, Charles B. Herzog, Katie Herzog, Susan Petty, Rebecca Holland, husband Mike, Jennifer Cloud, husband Kenny, Karen Davis, and Carolyn Herzog; her siblings, Carolyn Edwards, Ben Bryan Ross, Jr., wife Wanda, Mary Catherine Kelly, husband Sherwood, and John Ross, Sr., wife Betty; twenty-one grandchildren; and twenty-six great grandchildren and 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
