Eulalia "Lail" Patterson

Eulalia (Lail) Ann Patterson passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Francis and Dorothy Patterson, Lail was a lifelong resident of West Monroe. She grew up surrounded by love and laughter alongside her sisters, Lee and Fran. A proud graduate of West Monroe High School, Lail went on to attend the University of Louisiana at Monroe (formerly NLU). Lail was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church West Monroe. She built a long and impactful career at Fluid Machinery in Monroe, where her professionalism, warmth, and humor left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.

Although her given name often left people guessing, everyone knew and loved her simply as Lail. She will forever be remembered for her quick wit, infectious laughter, and the joy she brought into every room. A true Southern belle, Lail was always polished and put-together, never without her signature smile and a full face of makeup.

Lail had a heart as big as her personality. She was an expert in the kitchen, known especially for her baking, and was a devoted animal lover—most recently to her cherished dog, Sophie. She was a longtime supporter of Ducks Unlimited and dedicated her time and energy to the local women’s shelter, always eager to lend a helping hand.

A big fan of the PGA, Lail’s love of golf took her to many of the sport’s most beautiful courses, including a treasured trip to Augusta for the Masters. Her adventures and friendships reflected her spirit—she was curious, kind, and loved with all her heart.

Lail was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Dorothy Patterson and her brother-in-law James (Jim) Steckel. She is survived by her loving sisters Lee Steckel and Fran Patterson; her niece Lindsey Steckel Markham (Jason); her nephews Josh Steckel (Elizabeth) and Jordan Steckel (Molly); and her great-nieces, Mackenzie and Savannah Steckel.

Those who knew Lail will always remember her warmth, her humor, and her ability to make everyone feel like an old friend. Her light, laughter, and love will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A private family service will be held to honor Lail’s life.

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” John 11:25–26
