Obituary

Gilda Mae Tyson, lovingly known as “Gigi,” passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 85 years old.

Gigi was born on May 31, 1940, and grew up in the close-knit community of Mer Rouge in Northeast Louisiana. Raised on a farm, she learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and perseverance at a young age. She often shared stories of tending to animals, riding horses, and helping her family grow crops—memories that shaped her strong work ethic and deep appreciation for simple, meaningful living.

A dedicated student, Gigi graduated as valedictorian of her high school class before continuing her education at Louisiana Business College in Monroe. She carried her love of learning throughout her life and believed deeply in always remaining open to growth, understanding, and kindness.

She built a life centered on family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a steady, guiding presence for generations. She often said that raising children taught her the depth of responsibility, patience, and unconditional love.

Throughout her life, Gigi wore many hats. She had a passion for sewing and creating, a love for music—especially the early days of Elvis Presley—and a natural gift for bringing warmth and care into every space she entered. Whether baking, solving puzzles, or sharing stories, she made ordinary moments feel special.

She spent 20 years working at the Louisiana State Capitol, where she served with dedication and pride before retiring in 2019. Her work ethic, kindness, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Gigi was part of a large, loving family and cherished her siblings: Doyle, BW, Don, Peggy, Betty, and Larry. She carried her love for family throughout her life, creating a legacy of connection, resilience, and compassion.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and extended family, who will continue to carry forward her values of kindness, strength, and love. She is also survived by her brothers, B.W. Tyson and his wife, Margie Jamison Tyson, and Larry Tyson and his wife, Patricia Gresse Tyson, and her sister-in-law, Maxine Sanders Tyson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Odis Tyson; her son, James “Ty” Windsor; her sisters, Peggy Tyson Avault and Betty Tyson Guillot; and her brothers, Doyle Tyson and Don Tyson.

Gigi believed deeply in the importance of being kind and understanding to others. She lived her life with grace, faith, and a quiet strength that will never be forgotten.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Aunt Maxine, Tonya Moore, and Tami Cobb for the love, care, and dedication they gave to Gigi during the final years of her life.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring at a later date. The family will share details as they become available.

Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely.
