Obituary

Funeral services for Gin Heflin, 81, of Monroe, will be held at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Do Minh Vu officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, from 5-7 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2026.

Born in Farmerville to the late Clyde Nolan and May Bell LaDart, Gin graduated from Neville High School and spent her entire life in Monroe. In 1964, she married Bernard Heflin who preceded her in death in January 2019. Gin passed away on December 28, 2025, at The Hospice of East Texas, Tyler, Texas.

After retiring from Budco Distributing Co in 2001, Gin shared her time and talents volunteering at St. Francis Medical Center. She served on the Auxiliary Board and as a member of the Auxiliary, she volunteered in the surgery waiting room serving families of patients having procedures. Gin was part of the Ouachita Parish Women’s Republican Club where she enjoyed attending their meetings. At Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Gin was a member of the Bereavement Committee and the Flower Guild. She and her team constructed beautiful arrangements throughout the year as well as decorating for Easter and Christmas.

Gin enjoyed meeting people, spending time with friends and creating friendships that lasted a lifetime. She was a member of the Monroe Garden Club where she enjoyed attending all the events. She was a long-time member of the Lotus Club in downtown Monroe. Gin also loved playing games. She had special groups of friends with whom she played Pokeno, Rummikub and Bunko. She enjoyed hosting those games in her festively decorated home, always having dessert and fresh flowers, as well as hosting family with the same flair. She had a love for watching college basketball and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the ULM football team.

Gin’s love of her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren was known by all. She loved sharing stories about them. Gin never missed a chance to go shopping with her girls or really just go anywhere with whoever asked or suggested an outing. Those times spent provide many happy memories that all will cherish in her memory.

Gin is survived by her daughters Lori Heflin Bell (Brian) of Tyler, TX, and Robyn Heflin Howell (Paul) of Whitehouse, TX; grandchildren Brandon Bell, Lauren Bell and Matthew Howell; brother C. Wayne Nolan (Carolyn) of Lewisville, TX; niece Kim Byers (Marc); brother-in-law Ron Heflin (Susie), of Richardson, TX; nephews, Rogge Heflin (Brenda), and Brodie Heflin (Bri) as well as numerous cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Gin was preceded in death by her brother, R. J. LaDart.

Pallbearers will be Wade Earnhart, Dean Hebert, Brodie Heflin, Rogge Heflin, Hill Pohlman and Justin O’Neal.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to The Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701 or online line at www.hospiceofeasttexas.org
