Obituary

Mr. Grady Tim Murphy, 78, of Ouachita Parish, Louisiana was born on June 22, 1947, in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on February 14, 2026, in West Monroe, Louisiana.

Grady lived a life defined by courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication. He proudly served in the United States Navy from July 10, 1964, until his honorable discharge on June 21, 1968. Though blind in his left eye, he rose to the position of radioman, an achievement that spoke volumes about his determination and his refusal to let obstacles define him.

During his service, Grady took part in the search for a missing bomb, a tense and historic mission that demanded steady nerves and sharp focus. His final orders before returning home were to help save the USS Pueblo, a testament to the trust placed in him during one of the era’s most critical moments.

After his military service, Grady continued a life of commitment and leadership, ultimately retiring as the Postmaster of Start, Louisiana. He carried the same integrity, work ethic, and quiet strength into his civilian life that had guided him through his years at sea.

Those who knew Grady remember a man of grit, loyalty, and deep pride in the service he gave to his country and community. His legacy lives on in the stories he shared, the lives he touched, and the example he set for all who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mildred Murphy; ex-wife, Linda Joyce Murphy; son, Timothy Todd Murphy; and brother, Donald Murphy and his wife, Laura.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Billie M. Murphy; daughter, Dustie Michelle Creel; three grandchildren; stepdaughters, Terrie Marie Payne, Tracy Inez Lowrey, and Toni Allene Smith; five step grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren; brother; Jerry Ralph Murphy and his wife, Linda; three nephews; as well as a host of loved ones and friends.
