Harold Dean “Deanie” Harper, 71, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 12:00 P.M., Thursday, March 14, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA, with Bro. Wally Reitzell officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service on Thursday.
Harold was born January 18, 1953, in Monroe, LA, to Franklin and Georgia Harper and passed away March 9, 2024, in West Monroe, LA.
Deanie went to Pinecrest and West Monroe High School. Later in life he became a machinist by trade. Deanie worked in several places such as Ouachita Machines, Voith, and he eventually retired from Guide. He was an excellent athlete who had a passion for softball, baseball, and his home state’s college team, the LSU Tigers. Fishing held a special place in Deanie’s heart, he adored being outdoors and was a member of the Prairion Hunting Club. His greatest joy was spending time with his beloved family and faithful dogs. Above all else, Deanie was a man of God and a member of Cypress Baptist Church.
Deanie was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Georgia Harper; brothers, Charles “Chuck” Harper and Donald “Brub” Harper; sisters, Mildred Brownell, Bamma “Sam” Crowell; brother-in-law’s, Robert Kelly, Linton Hynum, Maxwell Brown, and Waldon Crowell.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Dewayne “Doodle” Harper (Ellen); his sisters, Mae Kelly, Margie Brown, and Barbara Hynum; brother-in-law, Malcolm Brownell; sister-in-law, JoAnn Harper; his children, Donna Hatten (Ricky), Brad Harper, and Courtney Murtagh (Trey); grandchildren, Dylan McGuffee (Mary), Shelby McGuffee (Bailey), Harper Murtagh, and Virginia Murtagh; great-grandchildren, Landon, Malley, Ella Kyle, Toby, Malachi, and Laird; his loving dog, Rudy; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Hatten, Shannon Harper, Dylan McGuffee, Shelby McGuffee, Trey Murtagh, and Dylan Tolbird.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter.
