Herschel Eugene Thornton, 92, of West Monroe was born on March 12, 1933, in West Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on February 7, 2026.

Herschel was a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and a man whose kindness touched everyone who knew him. An avid golf player, he found his greatest joy on the course beside his beloved wife, Geneva. He played faithfully for as long as his health allowed, cherishing every round and every moment shared.

Known for his loving, caring, and generous heart, Herschel brought warmth wherever he went. His coworkers adored him not only for his quick wit but also for the delicious cakes he baked and shared so freely. He was a longtime member of Whites Ferry Road Church of Christ and retired from Riverwood International Paper Company, where he built lasting friendships and earned deep respect.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geneva Gaye Thornton.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter, Janis Cobb and husband, Doug; son, Eugene Thornton; grandchildren, DeBeau Thornton (Christy Antley), Brandi Thornton, Justin Cobb, and wife Kaitlyn, Ginny Cobb (Syd Finklea); great grandchildren, Dylan Kelley, Anna Kelley, Samuel Battaglia, Hayden Cobb, Eli Green, and Josie Finklea; great great grandchildren, Emberlynn Peck and Enzlee Peck; sister, Nelda Hendrix; brother-in-law, Edwin Turnage and wife, Jackie; sister-in-law, Pam Thornton; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.

Herschel leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and quiet generosity one that will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
