Horace "H.A." Arlo Head

A Celebration of Life for Horace "H.A."Arlo Head, 84, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00AM Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Fairpark Baptist Church with Rev. Waymond Warren officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until service time at the church under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.

H.A. was born on Aug. 25, 1941, in Hodge, LA., and passed away at his residence on Aug. 30, 2025. He grew up in Quitman, LA., graduating from Quitman High School where he ran track and played basketball. After graduating, he attended Louisiana Tech University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Education. He then married Norma Vines, a native of Hodge, LA., and relocated to the Slidell area, where he taught at Slidell Junior High School. H.A. and Norma later relocated to West Monroe, where he assumed a teaching position at Mitchell Elementary School, where he also coached football, and boys and girls basketball. He attended night and summer school at Northeast Louisiana University, receiving a Master of Education.

H.A. spent much of his adulthood working as an automobile underwriter at State Farm Insurance Company, where he retired after almost 36 years of service in 2005. Upon retirement, he returned to his pursuit of higher education and attended the University of Louisiana Monroe, where he recertified as a teacher. H.A. taught in the Ouachita Parish School System as a long-term substitute teacher for approximately 12 years.

H.A. loved both college and professional baseball, faithfully cheering for the LSU Tigers and the Atlanta Braves. Throughout his lifetime, he supported his children’s activities by driving buses for their church youth groups and for the Boley Junior High School and West Monroe High School Rebel bands. He was faithful in his service to the Lord, having served as a deacon at Good Hope Baptist Church and Fair Park. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Arlo Head; brother, Benjamin L. Head; and loving in-laws, Marie and Dwight Vines.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; children, Michael Head and wife Jen, Angela Fry, Susan Avery and husband Bobby, and Robert Head and wife Lisa; son-in-law, John Fry; daughters-in-law, Shae Chapman and Sarah Furchtenicht; grandchildren, Courtney Moore (Anthony), Brendan Head (Brian), Meghan Reichenback (Cole), Keigan Head (Taylor), Jonathan Avery, Nathaniel Avery, and Kyle Beasley (Mallory); great grandchildren, Paul Michael Howard and his mother, Megan Stampley, Haleigh Beth Head, and Liam Reichenbach; sisters-in-law, Beverly Goodrich and Donna Vines; brother-in-law, Dwight “Bo” Vines; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, and many friends.
