Jack was born on October 23, 1948, in West Monroe, Louisiana and passed away on August 1, 2026, in Epps, Louisiana.
Jack was a beloved dad, devoted grandad, and a true outdoorsman whose life was marked by strength, hard work, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family. He was a man who never sought pity and never let life’s challenges define him.
In his twenties, Jack was injured in a hunting accident, but he refused to let that injury slow him down. Instead, he continued to live life on his own terms with determination, grit, and the same stubborn strength that those who knew him admired. He was the kind of man who worked hard, helped others freely, and could always be counted on when someone needed a hand.
Jack’s love for the outdoors was woven into nearly every part of his life. Hunting and fishing were more than pastimes they were passions he proudly passed down to his grandchildren. He loved nature and always seemed to have a story to tell about one critter or another. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to work hard, and he was known to offer a little reward for completing a task or even for successfully capturing some wildlife. These simple moments became treasured memories that his grandchildren will carry with them always.
His children will forever be grateful for the way Jack provided for his family and was always ready to help whenever they needed him. He taught them, by example, the value of working hard, standing strong, and taking care of those you love.
Jack had a simple but steadfast faith. He often spoke of his nightly prayers and was never afraid to say that he was ready to be with the Lord. His faith gave him peace, and his family finds comfort knowing that he is now resting in the presence of the One he trusted.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, William and Olive Miles.
Those left to love and cherish Jack’s memory are his son, Russell Miles and his wife, Jenneane; daughter, Jodi Miles; stepson, Ray Works and wife, Alesha; sisters, Loretta Lee and Ramona Putnam and husband, David; grandchildren, Sebastion Day, Johnna Phillips and husband, Taylor, Matthew Thornton and fiancé, Paige Neal, Jackson Miles and wife, Mikayla, Nathan Miles, Danielle Miles, Caden Miles, Ryan Miles, Jaelyn Miles, and Miles Works; great grandchildren, Alec, Alyssa, Alan, and Alora Phillips; as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
The pallbearers will be John Thornton, David Putnam, Patrick Neathery, Nolan Greenwood, Heath Rider, and Tyler Neathery.
Jack was greatly loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His strength, kindness, stubborn spirit, generosity, stories, and love for the outdoors will be deeply missed. Above all, his family will cherish the countless lessons and memories he gave them and the love that will remain long after he is gone.
Memorials in honor of Jack’s legacy can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
