Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. James Calob Nelson, 83, of Eros, Louisiana will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe with Bro. Body Spicer officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.

James was born on March 27th, 1943, in Aniston, Alabama and entered into Heaven on July 19th, 2026, at his residence in Eros, Louisiana.

James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by devotion, service, and joy. For thirty‑six years, he worked faithfully for the United States Postal Service, and before that he proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy. His dedication to the Lord guided every step he took, and for more than three decades he served as a deacon at Cheniere Baptist Church. He sang in the choir, played on the church softball team, and poured his heart into his church family.

An avid outdoorsman, James found peace in camping, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his dogs. He loved his family deeply, and nothing brought him more happiness than his four grandboys. Watching his children and grandchildren playing sports was one of his greatest joys. Known for his tall tales, warm laughter, and love of playing cards, James brought light and humor wherever he went.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rupert Bon Nelson, Sr. and Climmie Nelson; and brother, Rupert Bon Nelson, Jr.

Those left to cherish James’ memory are his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Eva Nelson; son, Matthew Calob Nelson and wife, Danica; daughter, Misti Nelson Hajj and husband, Ben; grandchildren, Dillon Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Nelson Hajj, and Lane Hajj; siblings, Doug Nelson and wife, Paula, Wanda Franks and husband, Bill, Diane Farmer and husband, Ken, Anita Nicewander and husband, John, and Rita Watson and husband, JB; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.

The pallbearers will be Dillon Nelson, Taylor Nelson, Nelson Hajj, Lane Hajj, Greg Franks, and Kenny Farmer.

He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and stories that will be cherished forever.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of James’ life and legacy may be made to the Cheniere Baptist Church Building Fund.
