James Howard Williams, Jr.

James Howard Williams Jr. (Jim), 73, of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Born on April 1, 1952, he lived a life rich in love, laughter, and the great outdoors.

He was the devoted husband of Janet Elliott Williams for 46 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with family, faith, and shared adventures. Jim was a proud father to three daughters and three sons in law: Sally Albritton and Neal, Jamie Buchanan and Billy, and Joanie Golden and Matt, who each carries his strength, wit, and warm heart.

A true outdoorsman, Jim found his peace in nature – whether hunting deer, dove, duck, or just spending time outside. He was also a gifted cook, known for his incredible recipes and meals and his talent for bringing people together around the table. Music was a lifelong passion. His rich baritone voice was a joy to all who heard him sing. As a US Army Veteran, he served his country as a Reconnaissance Specialist and Infantryman.

Of all his roles in life, “Papaw” and “Uncle Jim” may have been his favorites. He adored his grandchildren with all his heart – Elizabeth, Sadie, Aiden, Wyatt, Hank James, Lane and Elliott. One special bond he shared was with his great-nephew, David. He poured endless love into each of their lives.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Howard Sr. and Mary Gretchen Williams; his sisters, Anna Wiggins and Patricia Hughes; his mother and father-in-law, David and Norma Elliott; and brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Cheryl Roach.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of strength, humor, full bellies, and a lot of love. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 16, at First Christian Church Monroe where Jim was an active member. Visitation will be held at 1pm, followed by a celebratory gathering at 2pm.
