Mr. Harrell was born on February 23, 1940, in Dumas, Texas, and passed away on April 17, 2024, in West Monroe, Louisiana.

Jerry served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. After the Army, he went on to work for the U.S. Postal Service in the late 60’s and retired from there in 1990. After his retirement he furthered himself by receiving his OSHA and MSHA certifications which propelled him on to become safety director at RAB, Inc. for many years. During his tenure at the Post office, is where Jerry spent the bulk of his life starting a family. His two daughters Lori and Sandra were already here. He spent copious amounts of time hunting with Sandra, the tomboy of the two girls. Jerry’s time with Lori was spent as more of a backer to ensure she was able to do what she wanted to do and accomplish. Being more of an academic and less of a roughneck than her sister, he did what he could for her success…and accomplished and successful she is. Jerry glowed with pride when he talked of her. Then, nearly a decade later, came his son Darren. While still working, being active for a time with AmVets, and enjoying various activities with friends, he still made time to coach sports, hunt, and fish, and be involved in his son’s life at every turn. Jerry gave generously to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. He had at least 3 pictures on his wall of kids he sponsored, whom he referred to as “his” kids. All signs pointed to Jerry being with us for much longer. His passing was wholly unexpected, and he will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Francis Harrell; his mother, Hope Bell Harrell; as well as six of his siblings.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Darren Harrell (Amy), Lori Mitchell, and Sandra Robinson; eleven grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren.

The pallbearers will be Grant Harrell, Griffin Pepper, Paul Kates, Jaik Chadwick, Chase Conn, and Walt Pepper.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or a veteran’s charity of your choice.
