JoAnn G. Lewis passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Baton Rouge. She was 89 years old. JoAnn was born March 13, 1936, in Trout, Louisiana to James Odis Gibson and Annie Mae Cockerham Gibson.
She was a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School. JoAnn had a longtime career in Information Technology, working as a software trainer. She enjoyed time with family and would often be found reading, especially mystery novels.
JoAnn was a devout member of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, attending Trinity Lutheran Church in Baton Rouge and Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe. Her commitment to the church extended to countless hours supporting the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeffrey Scott Lewis; granddaughter, Amy Katherine Lewis; and sisters, Odelle Auttonberry, Alma Gibson and Hilda Gibson; and her brother, James W. Gibson.
JoAnn is survived by her loving children, Janice L. Lamy and her husband Edward, and Jay A. Lewis and his wife Teri; her beloved grandchildren Andy Lewis and his wife Aimee, Amanda Lewis, Blaire L. Reed and her husband Ethan, and Preston Lamy and his wife Chloe; and her great-grandchildren Tristan Lewis, Charlotte Lewis, Wesley Lamy, and Hayes Lamy; as well as numerous other loving family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. Funeral Services will be held in Monroe, Louisiana on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1301 Oliver Road in Monroe. A Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 1:00 p.m. The interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, and for those so desiring, memorials in honor of JoAnn G. Lewis may be made to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, Louisiana.
The family would like to give special thanks to the kind staff at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, The Crossing at Clarity Hospice, and the many friends JoAnn (“Mom”) made at Sunrise Assisted Living and her churches, "the Trinitys", in Monroe and Baton Rouge.
