JoAnn Stogis Herbst

Mrs. JoAnn Frances Stogis Herbst, 87, was born on November 27, 1932 in Chicago, IL and passed away Friday, April 17, 2020, at The Oaks in Monroe, LA. JoAnn was a member of the Catholic faith. She resided in Illinois most of her life: Chicago, Wood Dale, and Libertyville, and retired to Naples, FL in 1991. Memorial Services will be held at a later date near Chicago, IL, with burial at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine, IL.

JoAnn was a secretary for most of her life, retiring from Hawthorn School District in Vernon Hills, IL. She loved meeting new people, hosting parties, and playing golf, cards, bingo, and Mahjong. She was an amazing cook and avid baker, her cheesecake and Kolackys were famous and enjoyed by all.

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 40 years, Charles Herbst, on February 1, 2020; her parents, Benedict S. Stogis and Lottie Pearl Adelman Stogis; her brother Ben Stogis and his wife, Patricia; brother-in-law Roy Holmquist; and the father of her children, Daniel J. Martisius.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Daniel K. Martisius and his wife, DeAnna, of Monroe, LA; daughter Heidi (Martisius) Rasmussen and husband, Scott, of Egg Harbor, WI; step-daughter Patty (Herbst) Barry and husband, John, of Winchester, CA; and stepson Tim Herbst, of Edwards, CO. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren Ben & Mazie Martisius, Carly & Mallory Rasmussen; step-grandchildren Joe, Jack, Kim, and Lauren Barry, Christina & Renee Herbst, step-great grandchildren, Tymothy & Hanlu Aragon, John Brooks & Henry Barry; her sister, Carol Holmquist of Ellison Bay, WI; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
