Joe Dexter Albritton

Joe Dexter Albritton was born on June 9, 1942, and departed this life to be with his Lord on December 21,2024. He was 82. Joe spent his childhood in Farmerville, LA, graduated from Farmerville High School in 1960, where he was an all-state quarterback. He attended La Tech University on scholarship in track and was part of a Gulf Coast Conference championship. Joe married Janice Crow in 1965 and was blessed with two precious children. Kimberly and Lance were his pride and joy, a joy which only grew with the birth of four grandchildren, Logan, Lauren, Adam and Anna Grace.

After graduating from La Tech University Joe and Jan moved to Lake Charles, LA where he worked in the oil field as a Mud Engineer. In 1971, he moved his family back to Monroe, LA and opened Albritton Sporting Goods, later opened Monroe Athletic Center. In 1995, Joe began his final career as a manufacturer’s sales rep for promotional products. A career he enjoyed with his son, Lance and then with Jan until 2022.

Joe was a great outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. (his greatest catch of all time was his wife, Jan!) He loved teaching all his grandchildren how to fish, shoot, and drive a truck in the woods! Traveling around the world with Jan was a passion they shared. He also enjoyed bird watching and gardening.

Joe never met a stranger and easily befriended anyone he met with humor, a huge smile, and genuine care. His laugh was disarming and contagious. He used these gifts in his faith and served as a deacon, life group teacher, and on various committees at North Monroe Baptist Church.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Madeline Taylor Albritton and Elton Albritton. To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife Jan; children Kim (Troy Pladsen) and Lance (Vickie); grandchildren Logan, Lauren, Adam (Grace), and Anna Grace; also, his brother Eddie Albritton and wife Patsy and their children Robin Everett (Mark), and Scotty Albritton (Jodie); as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

His final moments were peaceful, and he was surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday December 26th at North Monroe Baptist Church. The funeral will be held on Friday December 27th at 2 p.m. also at North Monroe Baptist Church.
