Joe Geter

Joe H Geter, Sr. was born on January 12, 1945, in Natchitoches, Louisiana.  He took his final flight carried in the arms of his Lord, on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the age of 78. Joe grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana and graduated from Woodlawn High School.  His passion for playing football led to many victories for "the Knights." Joe was an avid LSU fan and faithfully followed the men and women's teams throughout the years.

He attended Northwestern State University, and then began a career with the Ford Motor Credit for many years.

Joe relocated his home base to Ruston, Louisiana, during the mid-1980s.  Shortly thereafter, he gained employment with Joe Mallard Ford, as the Finance and Insurance Manager.  He later transitioned to Jay Mallard Ford, in Jonesboro, Louisiana, during his remaining years of employment until retirement in February 2020. Joe fulfilled his lifelong dream of living in Colorado and moved to Colorado Springs in the fall of 2020.                                                                                                                                          

Joe is preceded in death by his late wife, Betty Dunn Geter; son, Chris Jones; father, James C. Geter Sr; mother, Lena Desadier Geter; brother, James C Geter Jr (Jimmy); sisters, Jean Kent, Donna Geter and Carol Doiron; nieces, Vanessa Kent Buck and Corinne Kent Weeks.                                                                                     

Survivors include daughters, Sierra Cherish Geter, Jacy Geter and Lisa Laurence Smith; sons, Joe H Geter Jr. and Ryan Laurence; sister, Judy McConnell; nieces, Jacqueline McConnell, Glenda Wilson and Debra Doiron; nephews, Robert McConnell, Cleve McConnell and Raymond Kent; eight grandchildren, (9th grandchild expected in May 2024); and one great-grandchild.   

Memorial services for Joe H. Geter, 78, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday, November 6, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, 300 McMillan Rd. West Monroe, Louisiana. Interment will follow at St. Paschal Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until the time of service.
