John was born on March 15, 1952, in Monroe, Louisiana and passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and children.
John was a devoted family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was centered around the people he loved most. For forty-seven wonderful years, he shared a beautiful marriage with the love of his life, Judy. Their enduring love story was an inspiration to all who knew them, and together they built a family rooted in strength, laughter, and unconditional love.
John’s greatest joy in life was his family. The love he had for his children and grandchildren remained the center of his world until the very end. Whether he was spending time with them, offering guidance, or simply making them laugh, John made sure each of them knew how deeply they were loved.
A hardworking and dedicated man, John spent forty-two years as a manager at Auto-Chlor, where he earned the respect and admiration of coworkers and friends alike through his strong work ethic and steady leadership. Even outside of work, John rarely sat still. He loved “tinkering” around his home, restoring classic cars, woodworking, bird watching, and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures.
Many knew John as quite the “character.” He had a gift for making others laugh and smile, often bringing humor and light wherever he went. His personality was unforgettable, and his presence could brighten even the hardest days. He truly embodied the definition of unconditional love always putting his family first and standing as a constant source of strength and support. To those who loved him, John was their rock.
John was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. Coon and Betsy Coon.
Those left to love and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Judy L. Coon; children, Jennifer C. Ecker, Lindsey C. Paxton and husband, Patrick, and Danny Coon; grandchildren, Rileigh Ecker, Ella Ecker, Kenlea Moore, and Harper Paxton; brother, Joseph B. Coon and wife, Denise; sister, Janice Jorgenson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
The pallbearers will be Jonathan Moore, Patrick Paxton, T.J. Ecker, and Mark Theodos. The honorary pallbearer will be Ethan Stelly.
John will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, his love, wisdom, laughter, and the many memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of his family and friends. And as he so often reminded those around him, “business first.”
Memorials in honor of John can be made to cure SMA or the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
