John Phillip Greene, Jr. was born September 21, 1946, to John and Earnestine Greene in Kilgore, Texas and passed away on March 30, 2024, in West Monroe, Louisiana.
Phil served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician. He attended Kilgore Jr. College and Northeast Louisiana University from 1964-1972. While attending college he started fishing the “Pro Bass” circuit. During the next 11 years he continued on the fishing circuit and competed in several hundred professional tournaments including several “Bass Master Classics.” He won various world and national titles. Phil was an avid fisherman and hunter. He cherished his time spent outdoors but going fishing with Phil was not for the weary. He loved getting on the river early in the morning and not coming home until dark. His greatest days were spent on the Ouachita River fishing.
When Phil and Ann moved to Nashville, Tennessee he owned his own heating and air business and also served as a Tennessee electrical inspector for several years. After years in Nashville, they moved back to West Monroe to be closer to their family. While in Louisiana, he worked as an electrician and was a mentor to many young men just getting into the trade.
Phil was involved in the Masons, and BASS fishing organization.
Phil was preceded in death by his wife 35 years, Ann Greene; and parents, John and Earnestine Greene.
