Joseph D. "Dave" Smith

Funeral services celebrating the life of Joseph D. “Dave” Smith, 82, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. with services at 2:30 p.m. Chaplin (Sergeant) Geary Williams will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Calhoun, Louisiana.

Mr. Smith was born July 20, 1943, and passed away on June 24, 2026, after a brief illness in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served in the United States Army, completed two tours of Vietnam, and retired at the rank of Captain. He later retired from the Federal Aviation Administration after a distinguished career in Baton Rouge, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Washington, D.C.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clifford Smith and Bernice Myers Smith, and three brothers: Darryl Smith, Dr. Dennis Smith (Johnette) and Donald Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Calhoun Smith; sons, Michael Smith (Heather) and Patrick Smith (Teri); six grandchildren, Laura Weiss (Zachary), Claire Bacon (Steven), Sarah Smith, Ethan Smith, Max Smith, and Tyler Smith; and, one great grandson, Mason Bacon.

Pallbearers are Steven Bacon, Jayson Calhoun, Jeremy Calhoun, Ethan Smith, Jonathan Smith, Max Smith, Tyler Smith, and Zachary Weiss. Honorary pallbearers include Jay Calhoun and Robert Calhoun.
