Karen Lynn Ouchley Nichols of Calhoun, Louisiana passed away on February 26, 2026. Born in Tylertown, MS on February 7, 1955, Karen lived a life rooted in love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.

On November 17, 1973, she married the love of her life, Johnny Nichols, and together they built a marriage that spanned more than 52 beautiful years with a partnership marked by love, laughter, and steadfast commitment. They spent the early years of their marriage going on adventures and lived in Alaska for a time.

When their daughters Jennifer and Meghan were born, Karen poured her heart into motherhood. She was a devoted mother, raising her daughters to be strong and kind. She never missed an opportunity to support her girls, quietly shaping their confidence and character. Karen nurtured their love for horses, planting the seed for what would become a lifelong family passion. For more than 35 years, she and Johnny traveled the country, faithfully cheering from the rail as their girls competed in horse shows.

As her daughters grew older, Karen joined Johnny in the family business, M-N Utilities, where she worked until her retirement in 2019. The couch in her office became a refuge – rarely empty and always available to anyone in need of advice, comfort, or simply someone to listen. Karen was known for her compassionate counsel and strong, steady hugs. She had a rare gift for making people feel truly heard and genuinely loved. She never ended a conversation without saying “I love you” and those who knew her never doubted that she meant it.

Karen was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in West Monroe, LA and volunteered as church secretary for many years. She loved gardening, bird watching and spending time in nature. A plaque in her garden is engraved with a favorite quote from the poem God’s Garden: “The kiss of the sun for pardon; the song of the birds for mirth; one is nearer God’s heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth.” Those words perfectly reflect the peace she found there.

She was preceded in death by her parents Kimble and Mae Ouchley, her in-laws Percy and Lois Nichols, and her dearly loved Uncle Wilson Nichols.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 52 years, Johnny D. Nichols; her cherished daughters, Jennifer Nichols Pesnell (Derek) and Meghan Nichols (Chase Barrett); brothers, Kelby Ouchley (Amy) and Keith Ouchley (Susie); sister, Kim Tolson; sister-in-law Kay Carter and many treasured nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces who were each loved beyond measure.

Pallbearers will be Chase Barrett, Derek Pesnell, Jeremy Ouchley, Zachary Ouchley, Kyle Tolson, Rob Mahobey, Robert Littleton, and Cole Johns.

To honor Karen’s love for her rescued Black Labrador Jake, memorials may be made to PAWS of Northeast Louisiana P.O. Box 15432 Monroe, LA 71207.
