Funeral services for Linda Sue Wood Waalk, 82, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Lea Joyner Memorial Methodist Church in Monroe, with Rev. Betty Swanson, Rev. Ben McGehee, Rev. Bob Burgess, and Rev. Natalie Faust officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church.
Linda Sue Wood Waalk passed this life on July 18, 2025, to begin eternal life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and the “Love of her Life” Gene Waalk.
Linda was born on November 21, 1942, in Miami, Florida to Dewey W. Wood and Ruby Flowers Wood.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and her true love, Gene Waalk. Linda Leaves behind her three sons, Jay Waalk (Jehane), Robert Waalk and Kevin Waalk. She also leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Jacob and wife Yukairi, Noah, Jaylie, Landon, Anderson, Greyson, Caleb and Ellis; and great grandchildren, Kao Yamaura, Renki Yamaura, Naru Yamaura, and Sora Yamaura.
She is also survived by her sister, Sandra Whittington; niece, Wendy Burrus (Gary); nephews, Richard Whittington and William Whittington (Lauren); great nephews, Ben, Nathan, Grey and Mathew; and great nieces, Caroline Whittington and Charolette Whittington.
Linda was an active member of Lea Joyner Methodist Church. Linda was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church for 36 years. Linda loved both of her churches and was an active faithful member of both. She also loved Grace Place and helping with youth and bible school.
Even though Liinda had a degree in education, she didn’t begin teaching until 1985. Linda taught at Shady Grove Elementary for eleven years, and at Lakeshore Elementary for ten years. After retirement, Linda taught at River Oaks for three years.
Linda loved giving of herself to others, especially to her precious grandchildren! Nothing gave Linda more pleasure than the yearly family trip to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach and family holidays. She loved attending every event in their life.
