It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Eldridge Howell, Jr., who departed this life at the age of 81 at his home in Monroe, surrounded by his family. Louis was born in Vivian, Louisiana on February 8, 1945, and passed away on September 23, 2026.

Louis was an athlete, avid outdoorsman, a businessman and entrepreneur, and admired and loved by all who knew him. He always enjoyed sports, playing basketball, football, and track at North Caddo High School, and later was active in tennis, and a life-long golfer. He was a member of North Monroe Baptist, where he attended.

Louis is survived by Stephanie Howell, his wife of 31 years, his four children—Greg Howell and wife Amanda, Matt Howell and wife Kristl, Alicyn Franks and husband David, Connor Howell and wife Lauren, eight grandchildren—Landon Franks, Branton Franks, Davis Franks, John Wes Franks, Mari Ellis Franks, Hamp Howell, Huck Howell, Aiden Howell, and one great grandchild—Beaux Franks, his sister—Betty Crain and husband Floyd, mother-in-law—Lura Sykes, and sister-in-law—Susanne Digby and husband Jason.

He is preceded in death by his father—Louis Howell, Sr. and stepmother Beverly, his mother—Marion Culpepper and stepfather Richard, and brother—Gary Howell.

Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, with a memorial service following at 2:00 PM on September 26, 2026, at Mulhearn Funeral Home with Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Landon Franks, Branton Franks, Davis Franks, John Wes Franks, Pat Garrett, and Logan Nolan. Honorary pallbearers will be Hamp Howell, Huck Howell, Aiden Howell, Floyd Crain, Wayne Jennings, Jason Digby, Larry Callison, Tony Portero, Mike Williams, Joe Brown, and Tony Martin.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, North Monroe Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.

Louis was always a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and lived his life with genuine kindness and respect to everyone he encountered. He was precious to us, and we will cherish his life and example always.
