Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille (“Lucy”) Marie Franks Humble of Monroe, LA will be held October 26, 2023. Visitation will begin at 12pm at Mulhearn Funeral in Monroe (2308 Sterlington Rd, Monroe, LA 71203). Graveside services will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, officiated by her nephew, Cleve Franks.
Lucy entered into the presence of the Lord October 22, 2023. She loved to cook, to spend time laughing with and caring for her family, and to work in her yard. She loved her family dearly, and spent her days taking care of anyone without ever complaining. Most of all, however, Lucy loved the Lord Jesus with her whole heart. No one who spent time with her ever wondered who her Lord was. Her well worn leather Bible, full of notes and prayers, was a comforting and familiar sight to anyone who entered her home. Her faith impacted everything she said and did. The love she showed her friends and family was fierce, indomitable, and sacrificial, but also incredibly joyful and remarkably beautiful. There will never be another soul quite like her; she is irreplaceable and unforgettable.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Humble of nearly sixty seven years, her two daughters: Connie Humble and Jodi Perry, her son in law Dr. Tim Perry, her two granddaughters: Katie Phillips and Ali Patsley, her granddaughters’ husbands: Johnny Phillips and Philip Patsley, and her four great grandchildren: Juliana Phillips, Eva Cate Phillips, Gabriella Phillips, and Duke Patsley.
She is preceded in death by her mother Bessie King Franks, father John Eli Franks, Sr., brothers John Eli Franks, Jr., J. T. "Pete" Franks, William Zennie “Bud” Franks, sisters Bessie Lee Franks Guidry, Thelma (“Deanie”) Franks Penix, and Elizabeth (“Libby”) Franks Lee, as well as half brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, and a host of other beloved relatives.
The legacy she leaves will undoubtedly impact generations. Although she faced trials in her life, each one was eclipsed by her faith. Her legacy is a life indelibly marked by hope that dispels fear, love that overcomes adversity, and laughter that silenced even the loudest lies of despair. She was one of a kind, and a force to be reckoned with. She was beautiful, generous, hilarious, spontaneous, and humble. She was also an incredibly fun person to be around. She could make even the most mundane experiences feel like adventures. She never backed down from speaking the truth of Jesus, but she also didn’t shy away from the difficulties and pain of life. Instead, she met challenges head on, full of faith and confidently armed with the knowledge that the Lord was always with her. She prayed constantly, and was unapologetically convinced that prayer was the most effective (and efficient) weapon against all adversity and hardship. Because of her faith in Jesus, her family can endure this time of sorrow. She left behind more than just memories; she left the confident hope that one day, her loved ones will see her again.
Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please honor her in the way she desired most: Seek the truth of Jesus Christ above all else. Read the Bible. Pray. Honor her by honoring the Lord. She always made it seem so simple to live by faith and to love like Jesus. (It bears mentioning that if she were able, she would undoubtedly scoff at this point and insist that she made many mistakes throughout her life. However, those who knew her know that one of the most beautiful aspects of her faith was the way that she always trusted the Lord to forgive all sins and shortcomings.) The greatest tribute anyone could offer her would be simply to follow her example: Love one another, forgive freely, hug your family tight, and tell anyone who will listen about the goodness of God. Laugh often, and appreciate good food. Work hard. Worship the Lord, even through tears. Don’t just know about Jesus; know Him. Dance. Teach your children’s children to pray. Have fun, even at the Post Office. Look at your spouse with adoration and respect. Don’t try to control things, but let God be God. Pray big, God-sized prayers, and believe with every fiber in your being that the Almighty God hears every word you utter to Him. Admit when you’re wrong. Don’t be afraid of death, but trust that God alone has appointed your time to leave this world. Place your faith in Christ alone, and confidently anticipate eternity with Him.
If she were able, Lucy would plead with her loved ones to please not grieve without hope, and she’d insist that no one bring her flowers that will waste away. She made it abundantly clear what she wanted more than anything: for her loved ones to know salvation through Jesus and for them to experience heaven. One of Lucy’s favorite verses was Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are the called according to His purpose.” For Lucy, all things have now worked together for the all-surpassing, everlasting “good.” She is present with the Lord. Because of her faith in Christ, all things are very, very good.
