Services celebrating the life of Malcolm Stuart “Mike” Sager, 73, of Monroe, LA will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 19th, 2025 at Grace Episcopal Church in Monroe, LA with the Reverend Dawnell Stodghill officating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.

Mike died on Sunday, December 14th, 2025 due to complications in relation to metastatic melanoma. He had been under the thoughtful care of providers at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX and received exceptional care by a multitude of providers in his final days at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.

Born in Lake Charles, LA on July 6th, 1952, Mike was the oldest son of JoAnn Biedenharn Sager Riley and Miles Sager, Jr. He graduated from Neville High School in 1971 and attended Northeast Louisiana University for just long enough to rush Kappa Sig. He lived briefly in Little Rock, AR with beloved life-long friends Les Tarver, Lee Jefferson, and Mike Porter, all of whom he spoke of often and missed greatly.

Growing up, he enjoyed trips to Lake Bruin with his brothers and later the family’s camps at Rota Quinta and Davis Island. He had an affinity for anything with a motor, starting with his first motorcycle when he was just 13. Mike’s love of motorcycling took him all over the country, and he very much enjoyed riding with his crew. He also had a passion for flying, receiving his solo pilot’s license in his 20s.

Mike was a problem solver and a true handyman; he could fix anything with a paper clip, rubber bands, or superglue. He would regularly preform “surgery” to fix anything and everything for family and friends. He demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping others and to personal growth.

Though he was never one to seek recognition, he quietly continued his family’s legacy of philanthropy, supporting various organizations that were dear to him. He has served on the Board of Directors at Ouachita Coca-Cola, Ouachita Candy Company, The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens, Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo, and Crime Stoppers.

Of the many roles he held throughout his life, the most cherished was being a father to the two daughters he shared with Danette Sager, his beloved companion through changing seasons of life over decades. He loved all 3 of his girls so very well, and he delighted in being “Pop Pop” to his grandson, George Malcolm. He had been so looking forward to meeting “baby girl” in the spring.

Mike found happiness in all of life’s small moments, and he brought joy to all who met him. He embraced gratitude at every turn, and he would be touched to know how loved he truly was by the many people grieving his loss.

He was preceded in death by his parents, JoAnn and Miles Sager, and sister-in-law Angie Sager. His survivors include daughters Allyson Sager Rodgman and her husband, Christopher Rodgman, and Emma Stuart Sager; Grandson, George Malcolm Rodgman; Mother of his children, Danette Franks Sager; Brothers, Harlan Sager and wife, Dawn, and Bernard Sager; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
