Mary Virginia Cencer, 85, of Monroe, Louisiana, formerly of Delhi, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2026, in Monroe.
Mary was born on February 13, 1941, in Richland Parish, Louisiana. After graduating from high school, she proudly chose to serve her country in the United States Army. During her military service, Mary was stationed at the Pentagon, where she met the love of her life, Norbert Cencer. The two were married and shared a life together until his passing in 1972.
Mary was an avid gardener who found joy in tending to her flowers and plants. Above all, however, her greatest joy was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and loved ones, and her family will always remember her for the love and warmth she shared with them.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Norbert Cencer; her parents, Othel and Lillian McBroom Sherman; her brother, Bobby Sherman; and her sisters, Maxine Pittman and Alice Weiss.
She is survived by her children, Teresa Flournoy and husband Jason, Michael Cencer and wife Terri, and Mary Corley and husband Kevin; her grandchildren, Sabrina Cencer and husband Brad Hemphill, Patrick Cencer, and Claire Corley; her sisters, Helen Gwin and Ann Rozycki and husband Bob; along with several great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, September 4, 2026, in the chapel of Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Dr. Bruce Walker officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until service time at the Mausoleum. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum.
Mary will be lovingly remembered for her strength, her devotion to her family, her love of gardening, and the many memories she created with those she loved.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ouachita Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Elara Hospice for their love and care they gave to Mrs. Cencer.
