Mary Alice "Mike"
Husted
May 30, 1927 — May 31, 2026
Mary Alice Mickel Husted of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, the day after her ninety ninth birthday, surrounded by her children.
Born on May 30, 1927, in Monroe, Louisiana, Mary Alice was the beloved daughter and only child of Mae Carroll and Habib Mickel.
Mary Alice was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-eight years, William “Bill” Lindsey Husted, Jr.; her son, William “Billy” Lindsey Husted III; her daughter in law, Debbie Hamilton Husted and her great-grandson, Tarver Mickel Braddock.
She is survived by her daughter, Carroll Husted Swander (Steve); her son, Mickel Douglas Husted (Susie); and her daughter-in-law, Vicki Sanders Husted. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Stephen Swander (Cherise), Holly Campbell (Brian), Lindsey Braddock (Brett), Elizabeth Hazlip (Magruder), Bill Swander (Lindsey), Emily Martin (Wes), Mickel Husted (Emily), Molly Glaser (Lance), and Trey Williams (Katie); and her great-grandchildren: Stephen David, Camille, Will, Thomas, Stella, Mac, Mae, John, William, James, Anna, Walker, Levi, Riley, Anna Reid, Tripp, Mac, Mary Alice, Wills, Clarke, Kathryn, and Mack.
Mary Alice, lovingly known as “Mike” to her friends and “Mimi” to her grandchildren, was born, raised, and lived in Monroe “every day of my life,” as she frequently reminded everyone. She attended Georgia Tucker and Neville High School, Class of 1943, where she proudly began a legacy of devoted Neville Tigers. After high school, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, for two years before transferring to Louisiana State University, where she graduated and was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. During her college years, she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Lindsey Husted, and they were married on June 3, 1948, after a brief engagement. Together they built a beautiful life and raised their three wonderful children. She and Bill faithfully attended, served, and passed down a legacy of faith to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mimi’s life was rooted in her faith in God, and she found great joy in nurturing a love for Jesus within her family.
Beyond her faithful service to the church, Mimi was an active member of many organizations, including the Monroe Garden Club, Monroe Garden Study League, Junior League of Monroe, and The Book Club. Known for her beautiful yard and love of flowers, she found great joy in tending the gardens and grounds of her cherished bayou home, where countless memories were made with family and friends.
Mimi was a true Southern belle, a steel magnolia, and a wonderful encourager. Her greatest joy was hearing her phone ring with a family member calling to share the latest happenings in their lives. She was known for her quick wit, remarkable wisdom, and gift for conversation. Her favorite sayings, spoken in her signature Southern accent, brought comfort, laughter, and wisdom to all of those who knew her.
Her faith was the anchor of her life, and she frequently reminded so many that God is faithful and worthy of trust no matter life’s circumstances. She modeled this faithfully in her later years as she lovingly cared for her husband through a lengthy illness and continually encouraged her large family through both the triumphs and trials of life, guiding them to rely on the Biblical call to peace and contentment. Her life was devoted to God’s Word and her love for Jesus. She was a true example to so many and generations to come will be impacted for the legacy she left with us.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 12:30pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00pm with Rev. Jonathan Wagner, Rev. John Mabray, and Dr Brian Mercer officiating.
