Our sweet mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother has joined her husband of 58 years in heaven. Mary Virginia Troy Coker, daughter of Nathaniel Ragland Troy & Mamie Carpenter Troy, was born in Paris, Texas. The sweetest girl in Texas was raised in the sweetest town in Texas, Honey Grove. She received her journalism degree from Texas Tech, where she met Douglas Roach Coker from Earth. After the Korean War, they settled in Monroe, Louisiana. She worked for many years at the Social Security office in Monroe where she would bring her famous Granny Cake. She was a devout church member of First Christian Church and First Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life service for Mary Virginia Troy Coker will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 22, 2026, at First Methodist Church in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sara Frances Troy; brother, Charles Richard Troy; and son-in-law, Rocky Bratton.
She is survived by her children, Don Coker (Barbara) of Jackson County, Texas, and Martha Bratton of Monroe, Ray Coker (Shirley) of Monroe; grandchildren, Sara Bratton Jones (Ben), Troy Coker, Daniel Bratton (Caroline), Mary Frances Bratton O’Rourke (Colin), John Bradley Coker, Kathryn Coker Bloemer (Matheus), and Lisa Hooper (Kem); and great-grandchildren, Daniel James Bratton, Emily Bratton, Mary Lucille (Lucy) Jones, Virginia Jones, John Harman O’Rourke, Edmund (Eddie) O’Rourke, Jackson Ray Bloemer, Hannah Gartman, Hillary Thompson, and Thomas Gartman.
The family wishes to extend much appreciation and love to Mary’s caretakers in her final years, including Barbara Williams, Sherra Page, Charles Carter, Tika and Ryan Wheeler, Edith Lloyd, Ascend Hospice, and so many more.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 3900 Loop Road, Monroe.
