Darrell Washam officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time in the mausoleum chapel.

Mary Lou, the daughter of Eva and Hobert Mount was raised with her 3 siblings in Catahoula parish on Glades plantation on the Black River and the family later moved to Sicily Island, LA where her mother taught high school. She graduated from Sicily Island high school in 1950 and married Paul White soon thereafter. In 1954 she and Paul moved to Monroe, LA where they raised their family and lived for 66 years. Out of necessity and much to her dismay, she, Paul, and son Dan moved from Monroe to Shreveport to Montclair assisted living in 2020 where she lived the remainder of her life.

She went to business school in Baton Rouge to become an executive assistant and worked for the American Heart Association in Monroe for many years. In her early 40s she became a realtor and sold real estate in Monroe for over 40 years with she and Paul forming their own real estate company later in life. She cherished her relationships with friends and clients and was genuinely interested and concerned about what was going on in their lives and one of the main reasons she was such a successful realtor.

She and Paul were devoted members of College place Baptist church for over 50 years until its closing and then moved to Parkview Baptist Church. Her church family was an integral part of her life and she formed many lifelong friendships.

Mary Lou was quite a woman. She was as sweet as they come but also tough as nails. She had a strong will, wasn’t afraid to try new things, and never thought there was a task too big for her to handle. She worked and raised 4 children making sure they never went without, were always at church when the doors were open, and received a good education. Her children, grandchildren and husband were always her number one priority.

She loved Monroe and her old house on 1310 Park Ave with the giant old Live Oak that stood in the front yard even having it put on the national registry for Live Oak trees. Expected and unexpected visitors to her home were always joyfully welcomed and made to feel special. She would immediately put on a pot of coffee and throw a pie in the oven. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, going on trips, holidays, and especially spending time with friends and family. She was devout Christian woman that fervently loved and took care of her family. That’s the legacy she leaves behind.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Paul White; son, Dan White; daughter, Amy Hoover; father, Hobert Mount; mother, Eva Mount; brother, William Mount; and sister, Ann Jones.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Brake; son, Dr. Kelly White (Tami); sister, Bibba Mahaffey. Also survived by her grandchildren, Abby Wright (John), Megan Eidner (Britton), Madison Hoover (Mike Rush), Patrick Hoover (Ashley Aydell), Harris White (Sarah Kate), Dr. Kathryn White, and 5 great grandchildren.

Many thanks for all of the wonderful care and special attention provided by the staff of Montclair assisted living. They made it “home” for the last 6 years of her life. Special thanks to Gloria Turner, Terresa Coley, Patricia Farruya, and LaShon Burks.
