Funeral Services for Mr. Maurice Eugene “Buddy” Pearson, 77, of Monroe, LA, will be 11:00 AM Thursday, January 5, 2023, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Shawn Hornsby officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Rayville, LA.

 

Buddy was born September 3, 1945 in Little Rock, AR and passed away on December 28, 2022 in Monroe, LA. Buddy graduated from Neville High School, class of 1963. He received an accounting degree from Northeast Louisiana University. He served his country in the United States Army receiving the following awards: Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Medal with Palm, Army Good Conduct Medal and Pistol Expert Badges. Mr. Pearson was a retired special agent with the Federal Bureau Investigation. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Kappa Alpha Order, Treasurer and Board Member of the Monroe Symphony. Buddy attended the United States Army Criminal Investigation Academy at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

 

In 1971, he was sent overseas as a Special Agent with the Criminal Investigation Division in the Republic of South Vietnam. He was charged with the responsibility of investigation of illegal smuggling operations throughout Viet Nam. One of his operations involving the smuggling of illegal brass retrieved from the battlefield by the Viet Cong resulted in the seizure of a foreign vessel in which the cargo of rice bags was filled with brass ingits bound for communist China. This operation was featured in a story by Time Magazine

 

After an honorable discharge, he attended Special Agent's Training Academy in Quantico, VA. During his twelve year career with the FBI, he served in the San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New Orleans Field Offices, and the Monroe, LA Resident Agency. During his career with the FBI, Buddy received twenty-one commendations from the Director, FBI, Special Agents in Charge, including labor racketeering matters, Wounded Knee Investigation, investigation of the Patty Hearst case, kidnapping cases, destruction of aircraft cases escaped federal prisoner cases. After retiring from the FBI, he began career as a private investigator in the State of Louisiana and a certified fraud examiner

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arch Pearson Jr. and Mildred Daniel Pearson.

 

Survivors include his wife of 29+ years, Janet Freeland Pearson; son, John Pearson of Grand Rapids, MI; daughter, Amy Fylling of Los Angeles, CA; son, Reece Pearson (Darby) of Austin, TX; son, Michael Pearson (Brytani) of Houston, TX; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Mike Pearson (Candy) of Sandpoint, ID; brother, Mark Pearson (Elizabeth Ann Gann) of Houston, TX; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

 

Pallbearers will be Ron Alexander, Robby McBroom, Bart Lizenby, Paul Brown Freddy Moses, Col. Ron Long and Duane Humphries.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Kevin Carlisle, George Franco, Stephen John Rybar, and Mike Ellis.

 

Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe.

 

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
