Melissa Haas Kroper, age 72, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip Kroper.

Melissa was a devoted mother to Jeffrey P. Kroper, Brian C. Kroper (Danielle), and Laura E. Kroper (Wang). She was the daughter of the late Henry J. Haas, III and Elvera B. Haas, and a loving sister to Steven J. Haas (Ann), Henry A. Haas (Lisa), and Barry P. Haas (Teri). She was also the proud grandmother of five grandchildren – Julian, Nathaniel, Cameron, Mia, and Claire – who brought immense joy to her life.

A graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School and the University of New Orleans, Melissa dedicated more than 15 years to teaching fourth grade at St. Angela Merici School and St. Ann Catholic School. She touched the lives of countless students with her kindness and commitment to education.

Melissa will be remembered for her love of family, her generous spirit, and the many friendships she cherished throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Our family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals at Ochsner Medical Center and to caregivers Janice Bee Caples and Allegiance Hospice for their compassionate care and support.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Tuesday, June 9, at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Catholic prayer service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery.
