Nancy Jane "Janie" Tannehill Burks

Nancy Jane "Janie" Tannehill Burks, 70, was born on August 22, 1953, in Richland Parish, Louisiana and passed away at St. Francis   Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana, on April 25, 2024, after a lengthy illness. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben & Allie May Tannehill, and Jay Burks, her ex-husband who she couldn't live with but couldn't live without.

Janie fiercely loved her friends and family. She never had children of her own, but she was the fun aunt to her nieces and nephews and embraced that role. She lived life on her own terms and made no apologies for it. She was a rabid Saints fan even when they were the "aints".

Janie was a very generous and giving person even though she didn't always have much to give. She shared what she had with whomever was in need. She took in friends and friends-of-friends if they needed help or a place to stay.

Left to celebrate her life are her brothers, Benny Tannehill (Dorothy) and Freddie Tannehill (Rose); her nephews and nieces, Jeff Tannehill (Nicole), Kim Tannehill Batteford (Clint), Chad Tannehill (Bridgette), Nick Tannehill (Rhea), Amanda Tannehill Stott (Bryce) and Ben Tannehill (Lauren); numerous great nephews and nieces; and her very best friend for fifty years, Dianne Asby who was by her side at the time of her death.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
