On October 23, 2025, Patrick Paul McHenry, Sr. (known to all as Pat) was received into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ surrounded by his family after an unexpected and brief illness.
Pat was born in Monroe, Louisiana on March 27, 1945, to his parents Patrick and Irma V. McHenry. He was the second of 5 siblings who were all boys.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Irma McHenry, his brothers, Benjamin C. McHenry, Thomas McHenry, and James McHenry.
Left to treasure his memory and life are his wife and bride of 56 years, Mary Patricia Hodge McHenry; their two sons, Patrick Paul McHenry, Jr., and Sean Michael McHenry, (wife Tabatha); as well as his brother, Ernest McHenry, (wife Pam). Pat had three grandchildren that were the joy of his life, known to them as Poppy and BopBop: grandson, Patrick Allen McHenry and granddaughters, Mikayla Renae McHenry and Grace Kenadie McHenry. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Anne Hodge Kelley (husband Bill) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Also left to remember him are the Family and Friends in Christ and members of the Eagles Nest Church.
Pat attended Ouachita Parish High School and left early before graduating in 1963 to join the United States Army where he was a Paratrooper assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. He followed in the footsteps of his Father Patrick and Brother Ben and later joined by Brother Tommy in service of the United States Army. Pat was a true patriot to his beloved United States of America and carried great pride in his and his family’s service to America. He would often be heard telling stories to family and friends of when he jumped out of planes in the middle of the night. He was a proud veteran and often wore his pins and hats of his service.
He married the love of his life, Mary Patricia Hodge, on September 20, 1969. They made their home in Monroe where they raised their two sons, Paul and Sean. Pat was gifted with grandchildren, and they became the joy in his life. He loved them with all his heart.
Pat worked at the Manville papermill, Bancroft Bag, Borden’s Milk, Holsum Bread, and later was owner and operator of McHenry Lawn Care for over 30 years where he served many customers until his illness. Pat was an avid duck hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman. He spent numerous hours with his brothers, brother-in-law James Henry Smith, Jr., and best friend Floyd “Sonny” Peters which often resulted in some great stories and memories. He loved going to high school football games and NLU (ULM) games with friends and family. He was a true New Orleans Saints fan and loved the Ouachita Lions.
Pat was a man who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all his Heart, Mind and Soul. He loved his many friends and family at the Eagle’s Nest Church in Monroe for over 40 years. They were a special part in his life as he helped lead souls to the Kingdom of God by being a fisherman of men. He was a gentle man full of love, mercy, and understanding for everyone he met. His favorite Book in the Bible was 1st John because it tells of the Love and Truth in Christ. He traveled to Europe with Pastor George Fluitt to minister to people in Ireland and Scotland and he often talked of how much that meant to him to be able to spread the gospel of Christ. He rarely met a stranger that he couldn’t talk to and it usually ended with him talking about Jesus. Pat was a gentle soul, kind to all who knew him. His family and friends will forever cherish his memory on earth as he is now walking with Jesus in the Kingdom of Heaven.
The family welcomes potted plants in lieu of fresh flowers or a donation to a charity in his name. There will be no graveside service.
