Funeral services for Raymond Stewart, 82, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Parkview Baptist Church in Monroe, LA with Terry Barnes officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until service time at the church. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA. 

 

Raymond Stewart was born on July 3, 1941, and passed away January 25, 2024.  Raymond was born in Albany, Louisiana to loving parents Eddie and Naomi on the Stewart home place which remains in the family to this day.  He worked on a dairy farm from a young age, where he developed a lifelong work ethic.  His parents taught him the importance of hard work, faith, and family.  He graduated from Hammond High School after which he chose to serve his country in the United States Navy, where he spent most of his enlistment aboard the USS Intrepid. He started in the insurance industry in 1963 and later established Raymond Stewart Insurance Agency in 1978.   He took great pride in service to his church and community outreach.  Like his father, Raymond served in the masons in the Dee A. Strickland Lodge #465 where he attained a 32nd degree and was a member of the Barack Scottish rites.   Raymond was a well-known insurance agent in this community.  He served as chairman on the American General Life Advisory Council in 1984-1985.  He was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Raymond was proud to send his three children to River Oaks Academy where he served on the Board of Directors for 8 years and served as Chairman on the Board for 2 years. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church since 1972, where he served as a deacon, proud member of the Parkview Choir, and served on the board of Trustees for 35 years.   

 

Preceded in death by his father, Eddie B. Stewart, Sr, his mother, Naomi Stewart, his grandson Brandon Stewart.

 

He is survived by his loving spouse Wanda Stewart, daughter Susan Stewart Sivils and husband Michael Sivils, son, Eddie R. Stewart, Jr., and son Arthur L. Stewart and wife Evelyn Stewart. Grandchildren Sarah Morgan Lawrence and husband John Kade, Stewart Sivils and Oliver Sivils; sister Sylvia Brown, husband of late Ritchie Brown, and brother Timothy Stewart (wife Brenda).  

 

Pallbearers: Larry Johnson, Ronnie Ward, Darrel Black, Trent Brown, grandsons Stewart Sivils and Oliver Sivils. Honorary Pallbearers:   his lifelong friend Bill Smith, Dean Macheras, Wayne Williamson, Ray Mohler, Levi Reed, and his Parkview Adult 6 Men’s Sunday school class, which was of great importance in his life.

 

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Parkview Baptist Church or the Louisiana Baptist Children’s home, both of which were very dear to his heart.
