Rebecca (Becky) Hernandez Balsamo, age 75, of Monroe, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026. She was born on March 25, 1951, in Monroe, Louisiana.
Becky was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Balsamo; her mother, Mary Manship; her father, John Hernandez; her brother, Johnny Hernandez; and her sister, Linda Correro.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory forever: her four children, Amanda (Jeff), John (Rachel), Chris (Krystal), and Darren (Katy). She was a proud Mamaw to Clint, Amber (Kyle), Maddie, Katelyn (Byron), Kylie (Caleb), Trevor, Shelby, Carter (Jocelyn), Paxton, Drew, and Vivian. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Emma, Kendall, and Wyatt.
Becky is also survived by her sisters, Lisa Balsamo (Gerald) and Brenda Elliot (David) along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Becky spent many years working alongside her husband, John, managing convenience stores and restaurants. She also worked at the Holsum Bread Store. No matter where she worked, she was known for her kindness, strong work ethic, and caring heart.
Her greatest joy in life was loving and serving others, especially through her cooking. Rebecca never met a stranger and never let anyone leave hungry. She cooked for every holiday, family gathering, church function, and time of need — always preparing enough food to “feed an army.” She became famously known for her delicious hot tamales and pound cakes, which were loved by all who knew her.
Becky was a faithful member of Rowland Road Baptist Church for more than 20 years. She faithfully served in Vacation Bible School, prepared meals for the youth, delivered snack baskets to local hospital waiting rooms for families in need, and cooked for countless church members during difficult times. Her biggest ministry was her cooking, and through it she showed the love of Christ to so many people.
Becky will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous spirit, and loving heart. She was kind, caring, selfless, and always tried to do the right thing. More than anything, she loved making people happy and bringing comfort to those around her.
Her family finds peace in knowing she is reunited with the love of her life, John, and welcomed into Heaven with open arms. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Bradberry, Willis Balsamo, Joel Correro, Ray Bradberry, John Horn,, and Gerald Balsamo. Honorary pallbearers will be Carter Balsamo, Paxton Balsamo, Drew Balsamo, Kyle Holman, Trevor Wilson, and Bryon Pace.
The family would like to give special thanks to Shay Jiles, R.N. with Elara Care-Hospice, for the loving and gentle care in her final days.
