Rev. John Wayne
Griffin
March 6, 1941 – March 16, 2026
Funeral services celebrating the life of Rev. John Wayne Griffin, 85, of West Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 20th, 2026, at Feazel Chapel at First West Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Thomas officiating.
The visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.
John Griffin lived his life with one clear purpose to serve God with all he had. He believed that ministry was not just his work, but his calling, and he poured himself into it with humility, devotion, and quiet strength. His years of faithful service took him from North Carolina to Shreveport, touching countless lives along the way.
After finishing his ministry at First Baptist Church of Monroe, John continued to serve wholeheartedly at First West, where he gave of himself in many roles, including as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was never one to seek recognition; instead, he worked behind the scenes, making sure every task, every moment, and every effort pointed back to the Lord he loved so deeply.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-six years, Sue Dillard Griffin; and parents, L.B. Griffin and Gloria Andine Rumby Griffin.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Karen Thomas (Jeff), Kristin Brackin (Trey), and Karla Griffin; grandchildren, Robyn Grossman (Paul), Andrew Thomas (Yumi), Bethani England (Wil), Caleb Thomas (Ashley), Melissa Taylor, and Daniel Thomas (Mia); great grandchildren, Noah Thomas, Eli Thomas, Luca Thomas, Liam Thomas, James England, and Ensley Thomas; as well as a host of friends and loved ones.
The pallbearers will be Andrew Thomas, Daniel Thomas, Ken Dillard, Wil England, Brian Crump, Trey Brackin, and Brian Ellis.
The honorary pallbearers will be the men in John’s Men’s Bible Study Group.
John Griffin was a humble servant, steady and sincere, whose greatest joy was honoring God above himself. His legacy of faith, kindness, and quiet dedication will continue to shine in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rev. John Wayne Griffin may be made to the Compassion Center of the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries designated for Bibles.
